SUMMARY:Fossil Free in Montana?
DESCRIPTION:Add name that attending at Action Network \nPress Release \n\n\nGoing Fossil Free in Montana: What Does That Mean? \nA campaign of action across the country \nMonday\, May 14\, 5:30 p.m. at Silver Park (west of the Osprey baseball field on Cregg Drive)\, 350 Montana is joining organizers all over the country to sponsor action events to get America free of greenhouse gases and free of the fossil fuels that produce them. \nWe’ll introduce a local Fossil Free Resolution and host a discussion about what going fossil free in Montana looks like. \nThis is the first of a series of community planning meetings where citizens stop waiting for action from elected officials and authorities and start planning for our own future and the future of our children and grandchildren. Our objective is to talk about: \n\nthe opportunity Montana has after the owners of the Colstrip coal-fired electrical plants decommission them in the next few years\,\nour high capacity powerlines that will remain in place for electrical customers on the West Coast\, and\nour vast wind and solar resources\, which are clean\, safe\, reliable\, and will provide high-paying jobs for Montana’s next generation.\n\nIt’s time to make this happen. \n350 Montana hopes people can grab a sandwich and something to drink and then join us for the discussion at Silver Park. \nWhat: Going Fossil Free in Montana \nWhen: Monday\, May 14\, 2018\, at 5:30 p.m. \nWhere: Silver Park on Cregg Drive (west of the Osprey Baseball Field) \nWho: 350 Montana\, an affiliate of the international 350.org \nWhy: Last year\, we experienced budget-busting climate impacts of a changing planet: millions of acres burned in wildfires\, a smoke-choked air shed with a “flash drought” that cost our top two industries\, agriculture and recreation\, millions of dollars\, mid-July “hoot owl” restrictions on river and stream recreation as our streams and rivers struggled to maintain their cold-water fisheries. \nWith Trump and his fossil fuel cronies running the White House and slashing community protections\, it’s up to our towns\, cities\, and states to fill this void of leadership. Going Fossil Free is the bar for real climate leadership\, and this discussion is the first of multiple discussions and demonstrations in the lead-up a Global Climate Action Summit next September. \nSign-Up: https://actionnetwork.org/events/going-fossil-free-in-montana-what-does-that-mean?utm_source=emailcampaign280&utm_medium=phpList&utm_content=textemail&utm_campaign=Next+Monday
